The House

Maison Des Rois

House of Kings. The name sets the standard the work has to meet.

The Codes

What the flacon says before the perfume does

  1. 01

    Black crystal

The flacon is weighted, squared, and finished in near-black. It gives nothing away in daylight — colour, level, character all stay private until it is worn.

  2. 02

    The faceted crown

The stopper is cut like a gemstone and set on a gunmetal collar. It is the only part of the object that catches light, and it does so deliberately.

  3. 03

    The monogram

M, D and R drawn as a single interlocking mark and raised from the glass itself rather than printed on it. Nothing on the bottle is a label.

  4. 04

    Set stones

Four faceted black stones anchor the shoulder plate that carries the name of the house — jewellery hardware, on a perfume.

The Noses

Three perfumers

The collection is composed by three hands, which is why it holds together without repeating itself.

Light, then shadow

Every fragrance in this collection is built on the same refusal — to be one thing only.
